Stephen Smith

Chairman

Stephen is Co-Founder and Chairman at PCM and he chairs the firm’s Investment Committee.  He currently chairs the board of Glass Lewis.

Stephen is the Executive Chairman and Co-Founder of First National Financial Corporation, Chairman and co-owner of Canada Guaranty Mortgage Insurance, and Chairman and co-owner of Duo Bank Canada.

Stephen’s other board roles include E-L Financial Corporation (Empire Life), Canada Infrastructure Bank, Historica Canada, C.D. Howe Institute and he was formerly Vice Chair of Metrolinx. 

Stephen has received many awards including the Ernst & Young’s “Ontario Financial Services Entrepreneur of the Year” award, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his Canadian contributions and was inducted into the Canadian Business Hall of Fame in 2018. He is a strong supporter of post-secondary education, Queen’s University honoured his $50 million donation to the school with the naming of The Stephen J.R. Smith School of Business in 2015.

Stephen holds an B.Sc. (Honours) in Electrical Engineering from Queen’s University and M.Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics.

Stephen lives in Toronto with his family and he is an avid cyclist and backcountry skier.
